About this tour

The 8 Days Birding and mammal Safari in Kenya is a well-crafted birding safari package that takes you to some of Kenya’s most unique birding sites on 8 Days Kenya Birdwatching Holiday Safari. This Kenya Bird Watching tour is designed to suit travelers who wish to explore Kenya’s Avian species on an 8-day-7-night Kenya Safari.

During this wonderful trip, you will get a chance to visit beautiful birdwatching hotspots and encounter some rare unique mammals like the small cats family like the caracals.

Itinerary

Early morning breakfast and drive to Nairobi National park where you will encounter the Black and White rhinos, Elands, Thomson and Grant’s gazelle, Kirk’s dik dik and the Coke’s hartebeest. Marshal eagle, Secretary bird, African fish eagle, helmeted guineafowl, Saddle-billed stork and many other birds will be seen in the park, we will then go for lunch at Galleria mall and later depart to Castle forest in Mt Kenya for a night.

However, birding can be done on our way up, if light and time permits for a chance to see the white headed barbets, Brown backed barbet, Spot flanked barbet, Green backed honeybird, Bronzy sunbird, the entry into the bushy areas will enable us photograph Variable sunbird, Yellow breasted apalis, Tawny flanked prinia, Tropical boubou, Singing cisticola, White browed scrub robin, White eyed slaty flycatcher, African moustached warbler, Red collared widowbird, Winding cisticola, Stout  cisticola, Purple grenadier, Little bee-eater. The water pools enable us take pictures of Long-toed lapwing, Blacksmith lapwing, Spur-winged lapwing, Black crake, African rail, Common moorhen, Black headed heron, Grey heron, Great egret, Intermediate egret and little egret.

Others include the Reed cormorant, African darter and more while the grasslands will provide Crowned lapwing, Yellow necked spurfowl, Shelley’s francolin, Black bellied bustard, White bellied bustard, Rosy breasted longclaw, Cuckoo-finch, Rufous naped lark, Red capped lark, the acacia scrubs will provide Northern pied babbler, Black winged kite, Gabar and Shikra, Augur buzzard and more.

We will break the birding here into two: a morning section and and an afternoon section, after we have taken lunch. We will be back at the lodge at 5:30 PM

Early breakfast and birding along the road with packed luggage for Northern and eastern double collared sunbird, Montane white eye and montane oriole. Colubus and Sykes monkeys may also be seen here. We will eventually drive away stopping for lunch in Nanyuki town then head to Samburu where upon arrival we will bird from the gate as well as watch the mammals. We expect Donaldson-smith sparrow weaver, Golden breasted starling, Kori bustard, Pygmy falcon, Eastern chanting goshawk, Vulturine guineafowl, Tawny Eagle, Martial
eagle, Black faced and Chestnut bellied sandgrouse and more before we get to Samburu Simba Lodge or similar.

After an early breakfast we will drive into the park hoping to see the Golden pipit, African Red bellied parrot, Buff crested bustard, Golden breasted starling, Black bellied sunbird, Rosy
patched bush shrike, Vulturine guineafowl, Tawny eagle, Wahlberg’s eagle, Martial eagle, Straw tailed whydah, Ashy cisticola, Kori bustard, Taita fiscal, White headed buffalo weaver, somali bee eater plus other beautiful game like Grevy Zebra, Reticulated giraffe and sometimes Caracal, Wild Cat etc. We will come for lunch and later do a round of game drive
before retiring. Night at Simba lodge or similar.

Early breakfast and go birding and game viewing till late morning when we come for rest and later lunch. More rest or swim in the pool till late afternoon for yet another session in the park.

Early morning game drive and later breakfast and depart for Lake Nakuru, lunch may be taken on the way or otherwise we can have a late lunch upon arrival at Lake Nakuru lodge. In the late afternoon we will drive to the lake shore for Flamingoes, Pelicans, ducks, Ruffs, Sandpipers and more as well as Buffalos, Rhinos, perhaps lions and more

Early breakfast we will make our way out to Kakamega forest, arriving for late lunch or dinner if we choose to have lunch on the way. Once in the forest we expect to see Great Blue turaco, Grey-throated barbet, Yellow-spotted barbet, Black and white casqued hornbill, Joyful greenbul, Mountain wagtail, Black-collared apalis, African blue flycatcher, Yellow billed barbet and also Red tailed monkey, Blue monkey and Black and White colobus. Night at the Rondo Retreat.

Early breakfast and start a waking from the hotel for Brown eared and Buff spotted woodpecker, Dusky Crested flycatcher, Turner’s eremomela, Oriole finch, Southern Hyliota, Grey chested babbler, Yellow billed barbet, Black billed turaco, White headed saw wing, Grey winged robin chat, Equatorial akalat, Ansorge’s greenbul, Toro olive greenbul, Turner’s
eremomela, Southern Hyliota, Wattle eyes and more before we come for lunch and rest till late afternoon when we embark on more walk.

Early breakfast and then embark on birding in the forest till around 10 a.m when we come for a check out and then depart to Nairobi by road or take a flight from Eldoret Airport
